Supplies:
  • Cooked pasta
  • Plastic bags
  • Food coloring
  • water
  • sensory table or bin
Picture
Picture
Instructions: Rinse cooked paste in cold water. Add 20 drops of food coloring to ½ cup of water in plastic bag. Add pasta and mix around until desired color is reached. Rinse pasta again. Complete this process for each of the colors you want. Place pasta in sensory table and let children play.

*The children had Halloween on their mind and decided that the colored pasta was:
  • red = brains
  • yellow = scarecrow parts
  • orange = pumpkin guts
  • brown = worms
  • purple = witch’s hair

I wrote down the children’s descriptions and we will use their descriptions to create Halloween stories later this week.

With adult supervision- In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the pumpkin puree and heat  for 2-3 minutes. Fold in marshmallows, stirring constantly until all marshmallows are melted.

Remove from heat, stir in vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, and cinnamon. Cool the pumpkin marshmallow mixture at room temperature for 15-20 minutes (the cooling helps avoid soggy treats).

Once cooled, add the crispy rice cereal and stir until cereal is well-coated. Pour mixture into prepared baking pan, spread out evenly and gently press down with a rubber spatula or butter hands. Refrigerate to set for at least 1 hour. Cut into squares and enjoy!

Store in an airtight container up to one week.
