Great Advent Calendar

Read: “Nutcracker” by E.T.A. Hoffman, Maurice Sendak, Ralph Manheim

Materials needed: construction paper, scissors, glue, blank calendar, yarn.
Directions: Cut out ovals and squares. Have the children write the dates of the December calendar. Glue the Christmas bulb over each number. (Be sure to only glue the top edge so it can be removed easily.) Glue the yarn over and between each Christmas tree bulb. Add glitter for fun.

Counting Snowflakes

Provide pictures of snowmen with a different number written on each snowman. Print snowflakes from ClipArt or the internet. Have the children cut the snowmen and snowflakes out. Then have them glue each snowman to a different piece of construction paper. Allow the children to glue the correct number of snowflakes above each snowman.

Sorting Snowballs

Lable three containers: small, medium, and large. Use white pom poms, cotton balls, or any round white objects as "snowballs". Have children sort the snowballs by their size into the correct container.

Christmas Tree Counting

Make Christmas trees out of Green and Yellow construction paper. Add a number to each star. Using Pom Poms, have children add the correct number of "ornaments" to the Christmas trees.
