This was a fun way to get the kids working creatively at our campsite. We collected old glass sculptures, vases, and lampshades, and allowed the children to glue them together, creating beautiful sculptures to commemorate the trip.
We used "Dow Corning 733 Glass-Metal Sealant Silicone Clear" to seal the items to each other.

A-Camping We Will Go
(tune: Farmer in the Dell) A-camping we will go, A-camping we will go, Hi-ho and off we go, A-camping we will go. More Verses: First we pitch our tent Next we chop some wood We light the campfire now We cook our dinner now We tell fun stories now It's time to go to sleep I'm Going Camping! (tune: Twinkle Twinkle) I'm going camping, yes sirree! I'm going camping, won't you come with me? First we'll pitch our tent on the ground, Then make a fire as we all gather round. I'm going camping, yes sirree! I'm going camping, won't you come with me? Next we'll cook on the open fire, Then till stories till we all get tired. When the stars are twinkling bright, We'll sleep in our tents 'til the morning light. I'm going camping, yes sirree! I'm going camping, won't you come with me? When we see the morning sun, We'll wake right up 'cause the day's begun. There's so much that we can do -- Fishing, swimming, hiking, too. I'm going camping, yes sirree! I'm going camping, won't you come with me? Our Hiking Song (tune: I've Been Working on the Railroad) I'm a first grade explorer Exploring every day. I'm a first grade explorer, And I have a dream today. When I'm working or I'm playing And pretending what I'll be, I'm a first grade explorer, Exploring to be me! How Many Stars Do You See? Twinkle, twinkle, One, two, three, How many stars do I see? Even in a space so small I could never count them all. Five Little Stars Five little stars, twinkling in the sky. The first one said, "This is much too high." The second one said, "I'm the brightest star of all." The third one said, "Be careful, don't fall." The fourth one said, "Isn't nighttime fun?" The fifth one said, "On no! Here comes the sun!" Then up rose the Sun, so high in the sky, And the five little stars said "Good bye!" These small paper tents are perfect for small toys. We printed the template and decorated it, then cut out the template, along the solid lines. Then fold along the dotted lines to create your tent shape. We used a small piece of tape to secure the bottom.
Using a forked branch, we decided to make a noise maker. We decorated our branch with colored yarn and temper paints. We then strung some large buttons and bells along a piece of pipe cleaner and twisted it in place between the branches. The children had a great time shaking and rattling the noise makers around camp.
Pine cones make wonderful painting tools. We dipped ours in several different colors of temper paint and rolled them on paper to create our prints. While this exercise was very messy, the children enjoyed seeing the different designs that they were able to create.
On our nature walk, we collected items that we thought would make nice imprints. When we got back to our camp, we tested them out using playdoh. We found that leaves and pine cones made the most identifiable impressions, while bark made the most interesting impressions.
We had a great time collecting Pine Needles, then tying them together to create our own forest paint brushes. We then dipped the brushes in paint and attempted to recreate the tree that the pine needles had fallen from.
