Umbrella Craft

What you need:
construction paper, string, popsicles sticks, scissors, and glue.

Directions: Have the children assemble their own umbrella's. Let then choose colors, size, etc. This will help teach children to make decisions and give them a sense of ownership over the project.

Weather Station

Here is what you will need: Markers, velcro (the sharper side), template (Ours came from Green Kids Crafts or you could easily draw your own), felt, and a pipe cleaner.

1. Make the following: A thermometer with the words, freezing cold, cold, cool, warm, hot, and burning hot. My weather station. Today is. Sunny, cloudy, icy, snowy, rainy, stormy, windy,...

2. Color everything.

3. Using the Velcro peel off and attach them to the backs of all of the above.

4. Cut 2 slits in the top of the felt and attach the pipe cleaner so your child can carry their weather station.

5. Let your child change their weather station everyday.

Is It Spilled Milk?

Supplies:

Blue construction paper
White paint

Directions: Fold paper in half. Place small splotches of paint on one side of the paper. Fold paper over and press down. Open up paper and see what kind of cloud you created.

Cotton Clouds

Supplies:

Blue construction paper
Cotton balls
Glue

Directions: Gently pull and stretch the cotton balls into desired cloud shape and glue onto paper.

Rainy Day

Supplies:

Blue construction paper
Cupcake liners
Chenille stems
Blue paint
Glue

Directions: Fold cupcake liners in half and glue onto paper. Cut a chenille stem in half and form into an umbrella handle and glue inside cupcake liner. Use fingers dipped into blue paint to create raindrops on and around umbrellas.

*Alternative: instead of paint use blue pompoms for raindrops. Great alternative for children that don't like the feel of paint on their hands.

Rainbow Blocks

Supplies: Blocks in multiple colors
Directions: Create a rainbow with blocks

Rain Stick

Supplies:

Plastic bottle with lid: skinny and tall
Lots of toothpicks and/or wooden skewers
Small grains: quinoa, barley, rice
Funnel

Directions: Fill bottle with toothpicks and skewers. Leave about an inch of space near the top of bottle. Using funnel pour in about an inch or so of grains. Twist lid on. Shake or turn bottom upside and listen to the sound the grains make as they fall. Through trial and error add more grains or sticks to reach the desired rain sound. Once desired rain sound is reached hot glue the lid onto the bottle.

Wind Painting

Directions:
If paint is thick thin it out with a little bit of water or it will be very difficult to blow the paint around. Place several splotches of paint onto the paper. Use the straw to create wind that blows the paint around.

Painting Clouds with Cotton Balls

Cotton balls
Clothes pins
Blue construction paper
White paint

Directions: Grip cotton ball in clothes pin. Dip cotton ball into paint. Paint clouds using the cotton ball.

Make your own Plate of Meatballs

Supplies Needed; Paper plate, scraps of paper, pompoms, glue, and scissors

Directions;
Give children scraps of paper, scissors and pompoms and ask them to use their creativity to create their own plate of meatballs.
