Popcorn Pilgrim Hat

Supplies:

Popped Popcorn
Construction paper
Glue
Crayons

Directions:

Pre-draw a pilgrim hat pattern onto construction paper for children (older children may want to draw it themselves).

Have them trace the outside lines with glue and place popped popcorn onto glue lines

Be sure to have plenty of popped popcorn ready, as children will want to snack on it as they complete the project.

What’s For Thanksgiving Feast!

Let the Children create their own feast and explore how other cultures share this day.

Read: “Duck for Turkey Day” by Jacqueline Jules and Kathryn Mitter. Tuyet’s family is from Vietnam, and their family is having duck. She is worried about what her friends might think. But she finds out that many of her friends are having everything from roast beef to enchiladas. A great story to explore diversity as it is reflected in how Thanksgiving is celebrated in America.

Materials needed: Paper place mat, magazines with food pictures, crayons or markers.

Pictures of the different food groups, a paper plate to add that food to the foods they would like to eat at the Thanksgiving meal. Discuss the “My Plate” nutrition graph.

Directions: Discuss the “My Plate” food groups. After singing the song let the children create their own feast on to their paper place mat. http://www.choosemyplate.gov/

Popcorn Corn

You may want to print or draw corn in only black. Pop popcorn. Have children color the corn and then cut it out. Allow them to glue the popcorn to their corn and then glue a Popsicle stick to the bottom for a handle.
