This is a very inexpensive and easy way to make a fire fighter hat. We painted a paper plate red, and allowed it to dry. Once dry, we used an exacto knife to cut out a ring 3/4 of the way around the inside the plate. Then folded the center up to create the front of the hat. We then printed out the shields (seen below), colored them yellow, cut them out, and glued one to the front of out hat. The others we used to make badges and affixed them with rolled scotch tape.
