Prepare gelatin dessert mix such a Jello according to the directions on the package. Cut into small squares. Place on a tray or in a sensory box and allow infant to explore the gelatin with their hands. 
*It is completely edible and safe for the infant to consume. (Gelatin dessert mixes do contain a high amount of sugar and artificial colors and flavors. Clear, low-sugar and  unflavored gelatin is also available in stores and can be used as a substitute.)

This activity was used with a special needs child with sensory issues. She is in the beginning stages of learning to tolerate different textures. During sensory time she was encouraged to touched the gelatin mix but never forced to touch it. She made several quick self-initiated touches. At first she did not like the touch but continued to try to touch it and found humor in it.

Supplies Needed; 
Print out of images (click here for template) or create your own, yarn, glue, and a cross-stitch loop. 
Directions;
Print out, and cut out template (or your own design). Cut several pieces of yarn, about 8" long. Glue pieces together with 2" of year in the middle to create hanging piece, adhere sides together so that they have front and back pieces that are the same. Repeat for all pieces. Tie 4 pieces of yarn, equally spaced, to create a hanger for the cross-stitch loop, and tie at the top. Hang mobile pieces evenly around the loop so that their weight is evenly distributed around the loop. Hang at a hight where baby can see, but not grab.
